Private Cloud Virtual Labs with Proxmox, OpenStack and Kubernetes

How Clover Optimizes AVD for Training: LMS, Auto-Scaling & Microsoft 365

Hands-on training is most effective when every learner receives an isolated, repeatable environment. Clover VDI brings that experience to infrastructure you control, helping training teams deliver virtual machines and containers without sending sensitive workloads to a public cloud.

One platform, three private-cloud foundations

Clover VDI can connect to Proxmox, OpenStack or Kubernetes. Proxmox and OpenStack provide virtual-machine capacity for Windows and Linux desktop or server labs. Kubernetes provides a fast, efficient foundation for container-based exercises. Administrators configure the required platform credentials once, then instructors work with reusable templates instead of infrastructure-specific commands.

Why private cloud matters for training

Keeping lab workloads on your own infrastructure gives your organization direct control over network paths, data location, capacity and lifecycle policies. It also makes it easier to reuse existing servers and align the lab environment with internal security requirements. Clover VDI adds the education workflow on top: groups, learners, templates, lab creation, browser access and collaboration.

A practical deployment workflow

  1. Install Clover VDI with Docker on a Windows or Ubuntu host.
  2. Connect at least one supported infrastructure platform.
  3. Create VM or Docker templates for the exercises.
  4. Create groups and associate learners and templates.
  5. Deploy labs and monitor their status from the instructor interface.

The result is a consistent path from infrastructure to classroom. Learners see only the groups and templates assigned to them, while administrators retain control over global settings and licensing.

Start with the workload

Choose Proxmox or OpenStack when the course requires a complete operating system, Windows software, a persistent desktop or a complex network topology. Choose Kubernetes when the exercise fits a container and benefits from rapid creation and lower resource overhead. A mixed catalog lets each course use the most appropriate runtime.
